There is a major trend to alternative proteins but all of these plant proteins lack certain essential amino acids. Satya Jonnalagadda of Kerry ingredients explains here how by combining proteins such as cereals and  legumes you can create a complete protein.

To meet the demand and maximise the key principles of protein the company has developed a concept called Prodiem.

Prodiem is a combination of pea and rice protein, pea and oat protein or pea and potato protein which ensures that consumers receive a complete protein. This research has been independently validated so that the company can meet this complete protein claim.

Albert McQuaid of Kerry Ingredients talks about the rise of plant based proteins such as dairy and soya.

However, as Albert explains these can be challenging in terms of both taste and functionality. As a solution Kerry launched a product called ProDiem at Health Ingredients Europe, which helps to modify particles for a smoother taste.

Kerry can help to mask bitter earthy notes in pea protein for instance with taste technology using only natural based products. Perhaps using a rice, pea and oat combination for instance so that the amino acid content is optimal.
