Last year the Korean food and beverage industry was named the second largest market in Asia for processed organic food and beverage showing a significant growth potential. It's said that the majority, around 60% - 70% of organic food in Korea is imported, including 85% of the ingredients used in organic food processing. Joyce Shin of Innotec Solutions and Kwangsoon Ahn marketing project manager for Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation spoke about the state of the Korean food and beverage industry.

When taking a look at the healthy snack category one of the more interesting products are those that use insects, FoodBev Media's Darren Wood explored the use of cricket flour in Yumpa, a natural energy bar containing 7 grams of protein. When asked about why the use of crickets, founder Tony Askins said: "Crickets are the most sustainable form of animal protein, if you give a load of crickets a kilo of feed you get 470 grams of edible weight whereas for a cow you get 40 grams. "They're also healthy, containing between 60-70% protein with loads of micro-nutrients." |
